An American Lyric

Claudia Rankine writes Citizen with a very unique style, one that is not often seen in literature. Rankine incorporates  great diction and differing page lengths to impact the way her pages are read and interpreted. Rankine's book is considered a lyric, which indicates that it is a form of poetry, but is unique in the way that it is also a collection of stories as well. Rankine's unique style and choices in her writing deliver a strength in the message of her book, that would not be present without such decisions. Rankine's impact on the page go far deeper than simply the stories she writes about; It is the decisions she makes in telling these stories that makes her writing so unique.
