Skinny Love

Skinny Love is originally sung by Bon Iver. However, the more common one played on the radio is performed by Birdy as a cover. Skinny Love is a story about a relationship that is not meant to last. This song is poetic to me because it tells a story that is complex and yet many can relate to.

In the song the word "skinny" is used throughout the chorus. Skinny is used to describe the kind of emotions and feelings conveyed. It can implied that the word skinny represents how the type of love is never gonna last, serving to the idea that it is "undernourished" and cant sustain itself. The line " Come on skinny love just last the year" goes to show how the love is dwindling and he is hoping to just make it through the year. Proving  that their love is wasting away. Another line that shows how this relationship has deeper issues would be "pour a little salt we were never here". I think this line has a deeper metaphorical meaning behind it. Since salt has healing properties, when put on an open wound they speed the healing process up. This probably is speaking to his hope to help mend their failing relationship, and even to help it "Just last a year"

  1. This song is a complete banger and I had never really looked into the lyrics, but now I see what it's about and I'm liking it. It's really cool how you looked into this song.
