Meursault enjoys Marie's company a lot but its just not that important to him to express his love for her.. "When she laughed I wanted her again. A minute later she asked me if I loved her. I told her it didn't mean anything but that I didn't think so. She looked sad." (35)
Discussion Question: Why isn't that he can't express his feelings towards Marie when their is an obvious and strong connection between the two? Is it because he is scared of getting hurt?
I don't know if I would say there is a strong connection between the two. Marie has a strong connection with Meursault but he doesn't really have one with her. I believe he just enjoys her company but it doesn't matter to him if she is there or not because nothing matters to him or most things don't. Possibly something could have happend in his life for him to react to everything in the way he does with Marie.
