Throughout the few years, police brutality and killings of African Americans have been brought to a worldwide attention. The cover of Citizen is represents the national cases of young African American males, who were shot and killed by local police officers. The picture on the front cover seems to be floating hoodie, with its sleeves and torso cut away, immediately you can recall these incidents. I believe this was a strong cover for Rankine to choose throughout the book, it reveals the ugly truth about racism.
