Citizen does a great job at emphasizing the racial macro and micro aggressions that occur in everyday life for African Americans. The "smaller" racially prejudice things that occur within the bigger ones which all result in pain and suffering in the black community. For example in the situation video about James Craig Anderson, a man who was brutally beaten and murdered by a group of white teens, Claudia Rankine writes “The announcer patronizes the pickup truck, no hoodlums, ‘just teens' no gang, ‘just a teen’ with straggly blond hair" (94). Within this moment the media wanted to remind their audience that those murderers were "just teens" to try to imply their innocence that was non existent because they committed a hate crime that resulted in a murder. The media consistently exclaiming that they were "just teens" is a micro aggression that exists within something greater. There is a huge issue with this because it suggests white privilege and racism is normal and acceptable.
