Stop and Frisk, A Common Occurrence

"And you are not the guy and still you fit the description because there is only one guy who is always the guy fitting the description" (105).

This line stuck out at me because not only does the passage draw attention to the wrong conclusions of the police but it gives insight to the fact that being wrongly accused is a common occurrence. The narrator said that he knew he was going to get pulled over. He had not done anything wrong but the police still thought he was the culprit. The line states that the is only one guy who fits the description and anyone who remotely looks like the culprit will be assumed to be guilty.

  1. I also chose this quote and agree with you about the issues of systematic racial profiling and racism.

  2. This line has a lot of meaning. It really gave me some perspective about what it is like outside of Oak Park.

  3. This line stuck me as well. I think that this quote was one of Rankine's most powerful quotes because what she talks about in this line is completely true. Rankine has done a great job to articulate how a typical black man feels being stopped and frisk.

  4. This quote was powerful when I read it, but the description you have written articulates the quote very well. I also agree with Archie, because racial profiling does not happen in Oak Park and gave a good perspective of the rest of the country.
