Satire Park

Leading up to and following the 2016 election, South Park released a series of episodes depicting the election. South Park is known for it's audacity and has been making fun of pop culture since the 90's. So naturally their episodes about the election were ripe with jokes and satire.

One way they use satire in these episodes is through humor. When the South Park equivalent to Donald Trump is elected he is seen in a futuristic chair with the music from star wars playing. He then proceeds to breathe like Darth Vader. Another way South Park uses satire is through exaggeration. At one point the president decides to launch nuclear weapons at Denmark. The South Park kids give the president a call and insult him. This gets him furious and he reverses his decision to launch nukes. This scene conveys the message that if you call Trump a bitch, he will have to react.

The South Park team have become masterful at creating satire. With years of practice they can make fun of anything in pop culture, and they did a great job putting a satirical spin on the election.

  1. I think South Park definitely doesn't hold back when it comes to satire. It can be beneficial, however, because they have a large audience. They do tend to get a bit out of hand sometimes though...
