Adult Cartoon Makes Adult Joke, Which Has Hidden Meaning

Family Guy Clip

Family Guy has always been known as a show that pushes comedy to far sometimes; Whether the show is discussing abortion, women's rights, or antisemitic ideology. The above clip does the same, and pushes a relativity hard to talk about topic, 9/11.
It first starts with the Griffin family pulling into the clean up of the twin towers. Peter, whose character was designed as a "slow witted person" (Stupid), makes an ignorant comment, which allows the family guy creators to use, Brian (the dog), to enlighten Peter about the history of the site, and the event.
What makes this so funny is because, Peter comes to an ironic conclusion to invade Iran(and Iraq) even though, as Brain explains that nobody from Iran had anything to do with 9/11.  That conclusion is satirization the thought process of President Bush, who put America in the Iraq War, which allowed destabilization in the middle east to occur. Which allows the viewer with context to read into the invasion of Iran and Iraq in 2003, as something more than just to counter terrorism.

  1. I agree with you here and find it similar that comedy shows these days are really emphasizing abrupt jokes that represent such big catastrophic decisions in US history.

  2. Family Guy is a really good example of a satire. The writers are constantly mocking someone and take things to an extreme that make a big impact on society.
