The Modern Heart of Darkness
It seems to me like there are too many Hearts of Darkness to choose just one. However, they all seem to have one thing in common, and that thing is people. Whether it's racism, pollution, or any other problem, the main cause is the people involved. Due to this, it seems to me like our Heart of Darkness today is people. Whether or not there are solutions to these problems, it is hard to say. It seems to me like how people interact with each other and the environment is usually bad. The previous examples, racism and pollution, showcase these bad interactions. It would take a lot of time and hard work to lessen the problems these interactions cause, but there seems to be different levels of how bad they are, and how easily they can be fixed. For example, pollution could be seen as not quite as bad as racism, and pollution may have a real solution. Racism, however, is deeply rooted within people, and has a solution that is way more complex than the solution to pollution. Still, the cause of both of these problems are humans, and this reaffirms my belief that the modern Heart of Darkness is people.

I agree. People are always the root of the heart of darkness, and especially in terms of race. Whether it is African, Afghan, or any other ethnicity that has been discriminated against or is being discriminated against. Pollution is an interesting take on it, because we tend to judge many places on the cleanliness of their cities and lands. Although the United States is very polluted, the places in the United States that people deem to be hearts of darkness do tend to be more or the most polluted. Very interesting. Good job.
