My Heart of Darkness

One of our Country's and City's largest problems is gun violence and gun control. Front pages of newspapers seem to regularly be about mass shootings and gun violence. This is something I feel passionately about, living in a city where it is such a big problem. Just last week, a nine year old was gunned down and killed because of his father. 

Something needs to be done about this violence, and this is my heart of darkness. More than anything I want this violence in Chicago to stop, but I don't know how I can make a difference. I think about it daily and what I could do to help, but I find myself feeling as though it is too big of a problem for me to have any impact. 

I am fortunate enough that while I do worry about this violence often, I don't have to be concerned about myself falling victim to gun violence. This is another reason why it is my heart of darkness, it's an issue that needs to be addressed but I am not one of the many people suffering from it.
