In the Midst of Death Brings Happiness
Throughout the book, The Stranger, Meursault acts with a melancholy attitude. In the last chapter of the book he finally seems to become happy. Meursault has grabbed the priest by the collar and finally "[he] was sure about [himself], about everything, surer than [the priest] ever could be, sure of [his] life and sure of the death [he] had waiting for [him]" (120). Meursault comes to the realization that there is no meaning to life and the only sure thing of his life is the death that is waiting for him. This allows him to realize that he lived his to the fullest and now he can die a happy man.
