"Acknowlegde" is not a synonym of "Consent"
What was at first a preferable alternative than prison soon proved to be more imprisoning than actual prison. The testing facility not only took away his basic freedoms, but also his freedom of speech, thought, and decision (not that those are explicitly stated in the constitution- but still). Although he had to "acknowledge" that the drip was going into the mobiPak, it didn't necessarily mean that he had given permission. Many times he did not want to give consent, but he was forced either by threats to take away the talking-time with his mom. Finally, he feels so controlled the scientists he gives himself darkennfloss and therefore making the last decision of his life.
