Both the old man who lives near monsieur Meursault and the old man's dog are described as having skin disease. These red scabs and mangy fur/hair are one of the first attributes the audience is introduced to. Why are the two characters introduced that way? Is it a foreshadowing? A metaphor? What do you think?
I think it may be the metaphor for how scabbed/scarred the Meursault is in terms of his feelings. May be he does not show any feelings towards anything because it is too painful for him.
