A couple weeks ago I read a satirical articular published by the Onion, it follows the first two weeks of Trumps presidency, but focuses on Vice President Mike Pence's personal agenda. The article is quite short but holds a lot of truth and commentary in its few paragraphs.
The article is a mock of Mike Pence's views on marriage and primarily his insecurities on the legalization of gay, and alternative marriage protection acts. The satire is played by his disgust of elk and their lack of homogeneous marriage. Stating that elk are know to have new mating partners every year or so, and there refusal to be loyal lovers. “One of this administration’s top priorities will be eliminating wasteful spending on environmental programs whose goals include the reckless and misguided federal protection of elk, a species of deer that chooses not to engage in a lifelong monogamous bond and instead mates with countless partners throughout its lifetime,” said Pence.
I would argue that the article is satirical and does make a point to promote a sort of change or awareness. The article pushes awareness for the acts and views of those in high office through a silly and absurd way. It promotes a understanding of how Mike Pence, views how people or "elk", in this case, define their freedom of marriage. It illuminates through a ridiculous scenario how people in people in power are able to do things that don't make sense out of text but to some, even when it isn't right, can conform and make sense.
