Remorse

Remorse

From the first paragraph Meursault seems to be detached from the world around him and feelings that most humans posses. He doesn't display a sentimental attachment to anyone or to anything; including the death of his mother. The first sentence of the paragraph says, "Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don't know." The fact that he isn't even aware of when his mother died, shows he is completely unattached to his emotional feelings. Reading his response to the death of his mother really upsets me, because of  my attachment to my mother. It's very hard to imagine a life without her, and the fact that's he's completely normal, and unaware of when she even dies shows he isn't emotional about something as devastating as this. Will Meursault ever feel remorse or any emotion towards the death of his mother or will he still be detached?
