“And the fiction of the facts assumes randomness and indeterminacy” (85).
This line was really powerful to be because it expresses how what is shown to the public on the news and in the papers isn’t always true. The tragedy of the people who died from hurricane Katrina in this situation video wasn’t random, but that is how it was expressed to the public. What is meant by the “fiction of the facts” is that yes, it is true that people died due to the hurricane. However, the fiction behind the facts is who was left to die, who was saved, and why.

  1. This was one of my favorite quotes in the entire book. Such a contradicting yet truthful line. It elegantly exposes the the ¨information" media spreads is not always true. The fiction of the facts. The media has the ability to cover, stretch, completely change all of the information. It is a large problem in our society and I believe that more people should be exposed to this literature.
