College Applications are so stressful because not only will this school determines the rest of your life but then you have to get the applications in by a certain time. These colleges have the nerve to want us to submit to their schools by November 1st. Where did this date come from? This date is right in the middle of our school year. The date should be around Thanksgiving Break where there is not that much homework and you have many hours sitting around the house. November 1st is challenging because I have other homework due the next day but I also have to worry about submitting in applications. Not only submitting applications, many of them have fees and now colleges want you to pay just to submit to their schools. These college application fees are free money because you might get declined but you are paying to take a chance. Oh college...the joy of determining the rest of my life.

ReplyDeleteTo follow up on this I feel like it would be even better if the deadline for applications was around Christmas Break where you would have even more time on your hands. The one thing I have to disagree with is the deadline itself. A lot of colleges actually have a rolling deadline which means as long as you apply at some point during the school year you will be fine. Usually the November 1st deadline is the early action date. I was really stressed out about the deadline until I realized that most of the colleges I'm applying to have a rolling deadline
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with your entire blog post. The entire college application process is so time consuming and draining I often forget about my other school work. If they put the early deadlines closer to Thanksgiving, or even Winter break honestly, I believe it would make the daunting process a lot less daunting. But also, I honestly wish I didn't even have to do so many applications and that we wouldn't have to write any supplements. This way we would only have to write one big essay and be done with it.
ReplyDeleteI feel this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The college application process is so stressful. I literally don't know why this is so hard. I didn't think it would be this hard.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with a lot of what you said. My only two comments are about the fee and dates. As David said, November 1st is the deadline (in almost all cases) for early applications. If you're ok with waiting, you can usually submit around January 1st for regular decision. Also, the fees are to pay admissions officers, who spend half the year constantly reading and evaluating. I think the price is a little high for what will most likely be 5 to 10 minutes of attention, but oh well. Good luck with your apps!
