However, I find that black people often appropriate various Asian cultures as seen through black weeaboos and such. Also, there's this strange hyper sexualization of Asian women where they embody these weird combination of being submissive and sexy. I think a lot can be said about this topic but we also must remember that when the dominate culture group appropriates, it has the greatest systemic impact.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2611907644200777279.post-51687567134143519572019-04-05T11:02:01.492-07:002019-04-05T11:02:01.492-07:00I agree that seeing all of these things all the ti...I agree that seeing all of these things all the time only continues to keep this mindset going, unless we actively work against it. "Aladdin" specifically is often glossed over as the audience cares more about the Genie than the questionable lyrics. It just goes to show how common Orientalism is and how easy it is to miss when one isn't looking for it; a consequence of it being widely accepted by Western culture for so long. I wonder how much influence K. Roosevelt had in the country after sowing the seeds of anarchy, or if he was even aware of the grievous injuries he inflicted on a country that was obviously headed in a peaceful and constructive direction. Ultimately, I think socialism is one of the scary, misunderstood, non-Western aspects that have added to the baseless depiction of the outside world, and we still have trouble using the S-word in a positive light. Such a pertinent historical example, Will. Thanks for sharing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
